Home » Eco-Wolf Trail – Station A – Bezeguimbra Village (1/16)
In this stop, you will encounter a glimpse of rural life and its harmonious connection with nature: the small settlement of Bezeguimbra, where tradition and history remain evident in the buildings and the landscape.
Although some houses are abandoned or in ruins, the site allows us to experience the way of life of the past, which still persists today, with agriculture and livestock as the main sources of sustenance. The houses are surrounded by private agricultural fields and, beyond them, by common land used for grazing and harvesting plant resources. This area is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including the Iberian wolf (Canis lupus signatus).
The homes and other structures, built entirely from granite, reflect the importance of utilizing this local geological resource. Among these features is the wash tank, used for laundering clothes, located next to a small pool that serves as an irrigation reservoir and supports high biodiversity, such as the Iberian frog (Rana iberica), an Iberian endemic species that depends on clean, well-oxygenated water.
Continuing along the village trail, you will see several granaries (espigueiros) used primarily for storing corn, protecting it from moisture and rodents. At the village exit, an old granite cobbled path leads to the agricultural fields, featuring a small devotional altar, known as alminhas, which offers protection and comfort to travelers.
