The municipality of Vila Verde is located in the district of Braga, in the very heart of Minho.
It is bordered to the north by the municipality of Ponte da Barca, to the west by Barcelos and Ponte de Lima, to the east by Terras de Bouro and to the southeast by Amares and Braga, from which it is separated by the Homem and Cávado rivers, respectively. It is situated a few dozen kilometres from the beaches that extend along the maritime coastline between the urban centres of Porto and Galicia and is contiguous to the Peneda-Gerês National Park.
Vila Verde enjoys an excellent location in terms of air, rail and road access. With an area of 228.7 km², it has a population of around 46 thousand inhabitants distributed across 58 parishes. It benefits from a pleasant temperate climate, with average annual temperatures of 15°C, with rainy winters and hot, dry summers.
