The concept of the House of Knowledge originated in the Municipality of Vila Verde and was presented to the University of Minho in 2004, with the ambition to create a physical, technological, and human infrastructure that would serve as a driving force in the region for the development of the Information Society and Knowledge Economy.
The Vila Verde House of Knowledge, designed by architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, has been open to the public since October 24, 2016.
It promotes a wide range of activities based on technological, scientific, literary, cinematographic, photographic, local heritage, and environmental culture, among others. It also fosters the concept of non-formal education, lifelong learning, and serves as a space that enhances multiple learning experiences, rooted in interaction, diversity, information technologies, and innovation.
