In the current context, in which citizen satisfaction plays a crucial role within all organizations, the search for new management tools has become urgent. In this regard, and with the aim of continuous improvement, some public entities have decided to implement and certify a Quality Management System according to the NP EN ISO 9001 standard. This standard enables stricter and more transparent management of all organizational processes, since it requires greater involvement from top management and all stakeholders (citizens, economic agents, institutions, employees, suppliers, the community, among others).
In the region and district, the Municipality of Vila Verde was a pioneer in this area, being one of the first local authorities to begin implementing a Quality Management System. Thus, in April 2007, LUSAENOR certified several areas with significant impact on the quality of life of Vila Verde residents: Citizen Service; Urban Operations; Water and Sanitation (administrative processes); Archive; Miscellaneous Activities; Human Resources; and Quality. The effort made by the Municipality now allows services to be provided to citizens with greater effectiveness and efficiency.
In April 2010, the Quality Management System was extended to new Services, namely: Inspection and Surveys, Library, Reception, Legal, and Information Systems, with the future objective being the full certification of the Municipality.
In March 2025, a new extension was carried out, and the following Services were included in the Quality Management System: Social Action, Projects and Construction Works, Procurement, Land Planning, and Building Maintenance (Library and Municipal Hall).
