There are voluntary retirement, early voluntary retirement, disability retirement, mandatory retirement, and compulsory retirement.

Voluntary retirement requires 66 years of age and 15 years of contributions (requirements may change frequently);

Early voluntary retirement requires 30 years of contributions by age 55 (requirements may change frequently);

Disability retirement can be requested by the individual without needing to take sick leave or during a period of absence due to illness;

Compulsory retirement occurs through a disciplinary process;

As a rule, it begins with a request submitted by the interested party.

What is required?
Proof of contributions made (Social Security or abroad) and responses to the questions contained in the CGA form/biographical note.

It is normally completed by the entity for which the worker is providing services at the time of the retirement request. The applicant may submit the retirement request directly, but subsequently the CGA will request the necessary data from the employer.

In these cases, the request is made to Social Security.

Yes, the pension will be unified. The request must be made to the entity to which contributions are being paid. It can also be requested under the community regime (abroad). There cannot be more than two institutions.

8. Can I withdraw the retirement request?
Yes. Provided it is before the decision.

After being informed by the CGA of the amount to be received, the worker is notified. Duties cease on the 1st day of the month following the one in which the worker became aware.

The individual is discharged from service and the employment relationship is terminated from the first day of the month following the date of notification.
