The Prof. Machado Vilela Library develops a range of projects for the community, especially targeting children and young people, with the goal of promoting a love for reading.
Wandering History – The Prof. Machado Vilela Municipal Library, in its effort to create and strengthen reading habits among children, annually conducts the reading animation activity “Wandering History.”
The project is based on presenting a story from school to school, involving all kindergarten and primary schools (JI and EB1) in the municipality during the school year. In Wandering History, the book serves as the central element around which the activity is developed.
Storytime – One of the activities promoted by the Prof. Machado Vilela Municipal Library is “Storytime,” which involves presenting stories to children using a variety of strategies.
The goal is to spark interest in books and reading, aiming to provide children with a meaningful and positive experience with language and oral and written expression. Sessions are primarily intended for children aged 3 to 10.
Stories are usually presented in the “Dream Room,” but on special occasions, the activity may take place in other locations.
Told Stories – Shared Memories is a project developed in partnership with the Cultural Action Service and the Municipal Library, aimed at working with nursing homes and day centers in the municipality of Vila Verde. Stories serve as a starting point to awaken the memories of the elderly. Their age and wisdom help revive customs, traditions, and the intangible cultural heritage of the community.
