“Vila Verde, Friend of Children” is the recognition from UNICEF under its “Child-Friendly Cities” program*. This program advocates for the adoption of a coordinated policy for children and adolescents that fosters collaboration across all municipal sectors and the establishment of partnerships with community institutions that promote the well-being of all citizens, especially children.
Between 2020 and 2021, despite the COVID-19 pandemic that we all lived through, Vila Verde made various efforts within the framework of the application submitted at that time, which included conducting a diagnosis of the child and youth reality in the municipality, the establishment of a coordination mechanism, and the presentation of a local strategy for Children’s Rights over the next four years, embodied in a local action plan (PAL).
This plan was designed based on 5 strategic axes that align with the priorities set out in the National Strategy for Children’s Rights, approved in December 2020, for the period from 2021 to 2024. These are:
In Vila Verde’s PAL, to be implemented between 2022 and 2025, strategic and operational objectives were defined for each axis, and a monitoring and evaluation plan was created. The proposal, which is already being implemented, earned Vila Verde recognition from UNICEF in March 2022.
We believe that the work we are already doing will lead to a greater realization of Children’s Rights in the municipality, as well as a happier and more fulfilled community!
