Municipal Education Council

The Municipal Education Council is, in accordance with Article 55 of Decree-Law No. 21/2019, dated January 30, which implements the transfer of competences to municipal bodies and intermunicipal entities in the field of education, under the provisions of Law No. 50/2018, dated August 16, and also regulates the functioning of municipal education councils, “an advisory body aimed at analyzing and monitoring the functioning of the educational system at the municipal level, proposing actions deemed appropriate to promote higher standards of efficiency and effectiveness.”

Therefore, the Municipal Education Council constitutes, in each municipality, an institutional body for the involvement of educational communities, playing a crucial role as a territorial advisory and reflection body on local educational policy.
