Social Action

The “Vale + Nascer Vilaverdense” project consists of a partnership between the Municipality of Vila Verde and participating pharmacies in the municipality, aiming to provide social benefits that translate into a subsidy to support childbirth in the municipality of Vila Verde.

The Vale + Nascer Vilaverdense, worth €250 for each child born on or after January 1, 2022, must be spent at participating pharmacies in the municipality of Vila Verde on products essential for the harmonious and healthy development of children.

The CIAB – Consumer Information, Mediation and Arbitration Center is an alternative dispute resolution service provided free of charge to consumers, aiming to mediate disputes arising from the purchase of goods and services.

According to Article 1 of its Internal Regulations, the CIAB aims to “provide information to consumers and professionals about the product and service market, as well as their rights and responsibilities” and “to regulate consumer disputes through mediation, conciliation, and arbitration.”

Anyone interested may use the CIAB’s services by telephone, online, by letter, or in person.

Requests for information and complaints are forwarded to a legal expert, who, in addition to responding to requests for information, seeks to resolve the complaint through mediation.

The Social Action Department is responsible for publicizing and reporting on the support measures implemented by the CIAB.

CIAB – CIAB is a Consumer Dispute Arbitration Center that promotes institutionalized arbitration.

The Local Insertion Nucleus (NLI) is a multi-sectoral operational structure that aims to ensure the implementation of the Social Integration Income measure and the hiring of Social Action beneficiaries. Its mission is to promote the social, personal, professional, and community integration of individuals, groups, and families living in poverty and social exclusion.

The Vila Verde NLI includes a representative from the Municipality, Social Security; Health; Education, Employment and Vocational Training; the Braga Employment Center; and the Municipal Professional Integration Office (GIP). the Prado Community Center and the Casa do Povo de Ribeira do Neiva, with which the Municipality entered into an agreement for the Social Assistance and Monitoring Service, which will be presented below.

Rent support consists of providing financial assistance to disadvantaged social groups, in the monthly amount of €175 (tier A), €125 (tier B), or €100 (tier C).
To access this support, residents must have resided in the municipality for at least two years and have a per capita income equal to or less than 30% of the legally established minimum wage.
The conditions for accessing the assistance in the respective tiers are available in the Municipal Regulation for Rental Support for Disadvantaged Social Groups.

The Municipality of Vila Verde signed a Protocol with the Casa do Povo de Ribeira do Neiva for the implementation of the transferred powers, under Decree-Law No. 55/2020 of August 12 and Executive Orders No. 63/2021 and 65/2021, both of March 17, relating to the Social Assistance and Support Service and Social Integration Income, starting April 1, 2022.

The main objectives of the SAAS are: 1. Provide information, advice, and referrals to appropriate social services, benefits, or responses for each situation.
2. Provide support in situations of social vulnerability.
3. Prevent poverty and social exclusion.

4. Contribute to the acquisition and strengthening of individuals and families’ skills, autonomy, and family and social support networks.

5. Ensure specialized intervention based on problems and support the life projects of citizens and families.

Family Support Program: CAF and AAAF

Children/students from families with proven needy households, as indicated by the Child and Youth Protection Commission (CPCJ) or the Social Assistance and Monitoring Service (SAAS) of the Municipality of Vila Verde (item a), paragraph 7, Article 9, are eligible for Tier A;

Children/students from families whose monthly per capita income is equal to or less than 80% of the Social Support Index (IAS) are eligible for suspension or reduction of the Family Support Program.

The monthly family expense is reduced by 50% if the monthly per capita income is between 80% and 50% of the IAS;

The monthly family expense is suspended if the monthly per capita income is less than 50% of the IAS (Article 11 – exceptional situations).

Medivida (since 2014)

The Medivida project consists of a partnership between the Municipality of Vila Verde, participating pharmacies in this municipality, and Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSSs), with the goal of ensuring greater access to prescribed medication for needy residents of Vila Verde.

It also promotes the social responsibility of pharmacies and enhances network intervention.

Irisvida (since 2018)

The Irisvida project consists of a partnership between the Municipality of Vila Verde and the participating Optical Centers in this municipality, with the aim of guaranteeing access to visual health care for Vila Verde families with fewer socioeconomic resources.

Dentivida (since 2016)

The Dentivida project consists of a partnership between the Municipality of Vila Verde, Vila Verde Dental Clinics, Dental Prosthesis Laboratories, and Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSSs).

The general objectives are: to ensure greater access to oral health treatments for Vila Verde residents with lower socioeconomic resources; to promote social responsibility; and to foster a networked, integrated, and concerted intervention, involving the municipal IPSSs as qualified structures close to the population.

Target audience: Those eligible for the projects (Medivida/Irisvida/Dentivida) are residents identified by the Social Assistance and Support team at Casa do Povo de Ribeira do Neiva who are in financial need. Priority is given to children, the elderly, single-parent families, and people with disabilities.

Obligations: Enter into a Social Intervention Agreement (AIS) or Integration Contract (CI) to improve their quality of life.

Solidarity Calendar (since 2018)

The Vila Verde Municipal Social Action Service created the Solidarity Calendar Project to support Vila Verde families facing social emergencies.
The solidarity calendar is sponsored by socially responsible local companies, and all proceeds from sales go toward supporting social causes.
The calendar annually features the participation of municipal employees who serve as role models, highlighting tradition, culture, work, or other causes of significant social interest.
This activity, sponsored by socially responsible companies, upholds the principles of subsidiarity, cooperation, and participation.
